What You Will Do_

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct data-driven experimental research on laboratory plasmas. Data-driven methods present new opportunities for plasma science with significant impact and growth potential. LANL is a world-leading multi-disciplinary institute that houses state-of-the-art computational facilities, experimental plasma facilities, and collaborates with other national and international organizations on the new frontiers of data-driven plasma research.

The project you will join will adheres to an aggressive, milestone-driven schedule. It is expected that the successful candidate will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement data methods for laboratory plasma experiments. You will have the opportunity to conduct research leading to high-impact research papers, to present at top plasma-physics conferences, and to build your credentials for a successful career.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and/or collaborative research in experimental plasma physics, data analysis methods, or a closely related discipline, as evidenced by papers submitted to or published in a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Sound academic training in fundamental plasma physics and/or data methods.

  • Fluent use of at least one of the major computer languages such as C/C++, Python, or others.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both technically and interpersonally both orally and in writing.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with experiments and diagnostics, in particular, imaging diagnostics.

  • Experience with high-performance computing platforms.

  • Experience with commercial and open source data analysis using software tools such as Matlab or others.

Education: A Ph.D. in experimental or computational plasma physics or very closely related discipline, earned within the last five years.
