Los Alamos National Laboratory Engineer (Pressure Safety Engineer) - Engineer 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Pressure Safety Group Lead

  • Provide field implementation of the ES Chapter 17 requirements

  • Coordinate inspection efforts with Work Control and the FOD’s

  • Coordinate PRV replacement/PM schedules with Work Control and FOD’s

  • Perform inspections of bldgs. to ensure MEL is up to date in regards to pressure safety

  • Perform inspections in accordance with codes and standards

  • Maintain an electronic database for inspections and results

  • Perform inspections per API 510 and SP001

  • Perform calculations for remaining life and corrosion rates

  • Perform NDE for tanks and vessels

  • Prepare inspection plans for performing inspections

  • Preparation of detailed reports for use in compliance with DOE orders

  • Assist in re-rating vessels

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated technical experience in inspections with expertise in pressure systems

  • Knowledge of engineering systems, ASME Codes boilers and pressure vessels, calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems for calculation involving tanks and pressure vessels

  • Experience and knowledge in sizing, inspection, repair, and replacement of pressure relieving devices

  • Experience with ESM STD-342-100 Chapter 17 Pressure Safety

  • Extensive experience of ASME piping codes B31.1, B31.3, B31.5, and, B31.9

  • Extensive experience of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, V, VIII, and IX. National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors NB-23, and standards related to design, construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and re-rating of boilers and pressure vessels, and piping systems.

  • Experience and knowledge of API RP 571, RP 572, and RP 576

  • Experience and knowledge of API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 Fitness-for-Service

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings; interprets results and makes recommendations

  • Demonstrated experience in design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance

Desired Skills:

  • AWS certified welding inspector (CWI)

  • Experience with Conduct of Maintenance P950 Criterion 419Familiarity with quality programs necessary for the ASME “S”, “H” stamps.

  • Experience with NBIC criteria.

  • Ability to conduct pressure vessels inspections

  • Familiarity with CMMS

Education:Bachelors of Science in Engineering. The engineering degree must be from an Accredited Board or Engineering and Technology (ABET) college or university program. Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant experience.
