What You Will Do_
The Foundry and Solidification Science Team in Sigma Division is seeking a foundry technician for performance of a wide variety of “shop floor” duties. The successful candidate will perform all hands-on duties related to mold setup, casting de-molding, chemical sampling, and material inventory. Additionally, they will perform a broader set of equipment maintenance tasks when required. While many responsibilities are shared among projects on a day-to-day basis, the diversity of products and processes in the Sigma foundry requires the technician be able to apply their accumulated experience to the next job at hand. Most tasks involve hands-on work in a radiological controlled area, which makes careful work practices and actively seeking out answers to questions both top priorities. They will work with relatively complex equipment, which requires a sense of ownership to maintain in proper working order. Another requirement is the adherence to conduct of operations and maintaining a safe and secure workplace while meeting mission deliverables. Training will be required for LANL radiological work and conduct of operations regardless of prior experience.
Common tasks for this job include:
Mold preparation and casting breakout.
Maintenance of furnaces, vacuum systems, water lines, and hydraulic systems.
Installation of new equipment and removal of legacy units.
Operation of furnace systems according to defined procedures.
Hands-on work in a radiological controlled area.
Fabrication of tooling.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated self-starter with a commitment to organization and task preparation.
Willingness to work with small teams to accomplish tasks safely and efficiently.
A demonstrated attention to detail and careful work practices around industrial hazards.
The ability to perform hands-on labor while adhering to safety and security regulations.
High school/GED education or greater.
Experience working with radiological materials.
Proficient forklift and/or crane operator.
Experience maintaining electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and/or hydraulic systems.
Welding, machining, and other fabrication experience.
Essential Job Functions: The ability to lift up to 30+ pounds.
Education Required: High school education or greater.
Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
