Los Alamos National Laboratory Hazardous Materials Shipper (Materials Management Specialist 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

The Traffic/Shipping Specialist (Materials Management Specialist 1) position is in the Materials Management Group (ASM-MM) of the Acquisition Services Management Division (ASM). As a team member of the Traffic/Shipping Operation, the Traffic/Shipping Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Traffic/Shipping Team Leader and will support Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) programs with hazardous/non-hazardous material shipping needs, freight audit, damage claims and other duties related to logistics, as needed. Safety and Security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Current or previous Department of Transportation Hazardous/Radioactive Material Shipping Training and/or International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and/or International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations training

  • Working knowledge of processes to ship hazardous, non-hazardous materials and specialty commodities.

  • Working knowledge of Federal and International regulations for hazardous materials.

  • Experience with the logistical requirements of arranging a shipment.

  • Seasoned/experienced in computer based Business Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance.

  • Ability to obtain hazardous Authorized Shipper Certification.

Desired Skills

  • Experience or knowledge with Traffic/Shipping Operations at a D.O.E / NNSA contractors facility

  • Familiarity with specific computer based systems including: Oracle, Fed Ex Manager, ATLAS and other LANL based computer systems

  • Experience with working with Classified Material

  • Experience in auditing practices

  • Working knowledge of MC&A; processes

  • Experience in developing procedures

  • Knowledge of LANL programs, sites, and facilities

  • Active Q Clearance

  • Current Authorized Shipper Certification

Education:Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two-five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
