Los Alamos National Laboratory Project Manager 1/2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Project Manager 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
You will support the Small Projects Division Office within Capital Projects, which is responsible for capital project execution as required to meet the infrastructure needs at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Small Projects is responsible for planning and execution of well over 150 projects that range in value from $500K to $20M. Collectively, the value of this portfolio ranges from $300M to $350M. These projects represent a range of mission critical facilities to typical infrastructure and utility upgrades or improvements.
You will act as the Project Manager to coordinate and administer a project from project planning and execution through close-out. Establish and maintain customer relationships as well as manage customer expectations throughout the project to resolve problems and coordinate service functions. Participate in planning and establishing schedules, forecasts, budgets, parameters, etc., and monitor progress to assure schedules are met and work is performed within budget. May provide assistance in the review of contract documents. May be assigned responsibility for a specific area of a project such as construction, engineering, or services.
Project Manager 1 ($83,300 – $136,200)
As the Project Manager 1, you will ensure that project objectives meet the customer’s scope requirements and are safely fulfilled within cost and schedule constraints. The Project Manager (PM) 1 will be responsible and accountable for project success and will be responsible for reporting project status to Division. The PM will be expected to identify risks associated with project execution and manage those risks to best meet the needs of the customers and the Laboratory overall mission requirements. The PM will be responsible for managing capital asset projects and/or De-commissioning &Demolition (D&D) projects with a portfolio value up to $10M total project cost and/or multiple capital asset projects utilizing both sub-contract and direct hire acquisition methods.
Project Manager 2 ($91,800 – $151,400)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Project Manager 2 will be required to:
Assume responsibility and accountability for project success from cradle to grave and report project status to upper level management on a regular basis. The PM 2 will be expected to identify risks associated with project execution on complex projects and manage those risks to best meet the needs of the customers and the Laboratory overall mission requirements. The PM 2 will be responsible for managing capital asset projects and/or D&D projects with a portfolio value of $10 or higher total project cost and/or multiple capital asset projects utilizing both sub-contract and direct hire acquisition methods.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge and experience in most aspects of project management and project control activities with the ability to become proficient in all. Experience in developing operating and financial plans.
Some knowledge and skill in prime contract formation, negotiation and administration.
Technical comprehension of engineering, procurement, and construction techniques, including their interfaces and interdependencies.
Skill in oral and written communication as well as applying team building concepts.
Basic knowledge of and experience with project controls and/or project management, project budgets including cost estimating, cost control and cost analysis, project scheduling, implementation of corrective actions, developing and delivering detailed and accurate status reports and basic knowledge of/and experience with engineering functions and principles required to understand and successfully implement and monitor technical projects.
Basic knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.
Additional Job Requirements for Project Manager 2:
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of project management tools and techniques relating to all project activities.
Knowledge of project processes and an understanding of project management activities, such as planning, budgeting and performance measurement.
Education/Experience for Project Manager 1: Position requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education/Experience for Project Manager 2: Position requires a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in project management and a minimum of 5 years’ extensive experience in at least one of the following functions: engineering, procurement and/or construction (or a minimum of 13 years relevant work experience without a B.S. degree) leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
Experience working with the Department of Energy (DOE) at headquarters and/or field office level, or with state and federal regulators.
Experience reporting to and communicating with multiple supervisory organizations.
Experience working with LANL P409 Waste Management Tools.
Basic knowledge of Waste Compliance and Tracking System.
