What You Will Do_

The successful applicant will function in a design engineering role as part of an engineering team assigned to support weapons work, hydrodynamic experiments, or sub critical experiments. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply his/her knowledge to assist with hardware design and fabrication and apply engineering practices/theory to develop technical approaches to assist with the successful completion of design and drawing work to meet programmatic deliverables. Applicant will serve as a customer point of contact for W-11 interacting with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of system engineers, physicists, technicians, designers, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) operators for a period of one year. This position requires the candidate complete one year of service within the Product Definition Group, W-11 in order to learn the fundamental business policies, engineering processes, and design tools required to support weapon programs. After completion of the one year term the candidate will transition into another group with the goal of obtaining additional weapons engineering experience, skills and knowledge in other technical areas.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Design engineering experience providing innovative, practical solutions to a range of design problems by applying engineering practices and principles.

  • Experience creating complete design definition models and drawings for fabrication and assembly.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes used in fabricating products, including material selection techniques, tooling manufacturing principles, and welding techniques and principles.

  • Experience utilizing CAD software, preferably Pro-E/Creo CAD software, for product design and definition including solid modeling and parametric drawings.

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME 14.5).

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and experience interacting with all levels of personnel and customers.

  • Proven record of team work and conflict resolution.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with using Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management, engineering configuration management (CM) control, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), preferably PDMLink.

  • Mechanical design experience in areas such as precision mechanisms, machine tooling and fixturing, and gas handling systems.

  • Experience with practices and procedures used in the Nuclear Weapons Complex for conveying design intent to other national laboratories and production plants.

  • Experience and/or training in the Institute of Configuration Management CMII Change Management Processes preferably using the out of the box functionality in PDMLink.

  • Knowledge of experimental hardware design, experimental techniques and experimental design methodologies.

  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Hydrodynamic shock physics using codes such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, AutoDyne, CTH, Matlab or other engineering applications.

  • Active Q clearance.

Work Environment:Domestic Travel

Education Required:A minimum of a BS in engineering from an Accreditation Board or Engineering and Technology (ABET) college or university program is required; advanced degree in engineering preferred.
