Los Alamos National Laboratory Scrum Master (IT Project Manager 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the IT Project Manager/Scrum Master 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division provides software and applications development support and database design/development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting.
Agile Demonstrated Knowledge and Experience:
Deep understanding Scrum techniques and artifacts (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement)
Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self-study, etc.
Agile frameworks: Scrum, XP, Kanban, Nexus, LeSS, SAFe, Crystal, FDD, etc.
Agile best practices: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
IT Project Manager/ Scrum Master 3 Responsibilities ($101,800 - $168,600)
Working with a development team, the IT Project Manager/Scrum Master facilitates the timely completion of multi-discipline information technology (IT) projects of various levels of complexity and scope. Uses specific knowledge about Agile to lead and coach teams to achieve IT objectives. Coaches and facilitates development teams to plan, track and execute work. Managing timelines, resolving impediments and coaching team members on Agile principles and practice.
IT Project Manager/ Scrum Master 4 Responsibilities ($110,400 - $186,300)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level excellent knowledge of the Scrum framework and the ability to coordinate people and projects keeping focus on deliverables and outcomes. Has wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contributes to the development and/or implementation of new standards and methods. Considered an expert in the field. Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Work is accomplished without considerable direction and/or coordinates activities of other personnel. Exerts significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment, and determines the methods and procedures needed for new assignments.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Excellent communication and servant leadership skills, problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability, and outstanding organizational skills
Experience being on multiple development teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.)
Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes, including source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration.
Knowledge and experience with successful Agile best practices and framework.
Knowledge and experience in playing the Scrum Master role for at least three years for a development team.
Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills.
Familiarity with software development.
Additional Job Requirements for IT Project Manager/ Scrum Master 4:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Expert knowledge and experience in playing the Scrum Master role for at least five years for a development team.
Expert knowledge and experience with successful Agile best practices and frameworks.
Expert knowledge of IT environments and application development methodologies.
Training/Certifications: Scrum master certification (CSP, CSM, or equivalent).
Education/Experience at lower level: Requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Education/Experience at higher level: Requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected
Experience in assisting an organization transition from waterfall methods to an Agile environment.
Experience working in a government or national laboratory environment.
